Lichen population genetics team at WSL

Christoph Scheidegger

Christoph has been doing his PhD on saxiculous Buellia lichens, and has since worked with a wide variety in lichenological topics including electron microscopical studies, ecophysiology of lichens, biodiversity of lichens, development of juvenile lichens and transplanted lichens. He was involved in the Swiss Red list for epiphytic lichens. In the recent time, he has been focussing on population genetics of lichens. As you can see, Christoph is a good field biologist.

Christine Keller

Christine has been working on the phylogeography of Lobaria pulmonaria across Europe and is currently working on a project focussing on population genetics and phylogeny of Verrucariales lichens.

In the future, she might be working on Lobaria pulmonaria population genetics.

Henrik Hedenås

Henrik studies insect dispersal of Lobaria pulmonaria diaspores. Coming from Sweden as he is, he will also have a closer look at genetic diversity of nortern European Lobaria pulmonaria populations in relationship with disturbance levels.

Silke Werth

Silke is doing her PhD on wind dispersal and genetic diversity of Lobaria pulmonaria and tries to understand how this disturbance-sensitive species is able to persist in a dynamic pasture woodland.

Carolina Cornejo

Carolina is currently working on the phylogeny of the genus Lobaria using ITS and LSU sequences. In addition, she is investigating population genetics of Eastern European L. pulmonaria populations.

Daniela Csencsics

Daniela's lichen research focuses on diversity of mediterranean and eastern European populations of Lobaria pulmonaria, and she tries to understand how this species segregates from L. immixta and L. meridionalis. Furthermore, she is working on Populus tremula.

Isabelle Stähli

Isabelle is working on Lobaria pulmonaria. She compares an area where many trees are colonised to an area where few trees are colonised, and with population genetic and dendroecological methods she tries to find out why this is so. Her study area is situated in the Swiss Jura Mountains at Marchairuz.

Ivo Widmer

Ivo's diploma thesis focuses on genetic diversity of mediterranean populations of Lobaria pulmonaria. His study area is situated in Italy.

Maja Roost

Maja is doing her sabbatical in our lab (actually, in "real life", she is working as a high school teacher), and is working on phylogeny of Lobaria species associated with green algae at the moment.
